Values
Murray Edwards isn't a traditional Cambridge College.
Our Motivation
Our story is not just one of academic excellence, but a tale of resilience, rebellion, and a relentless pursuit of equality. Established in an era when women’s higher education was still an act of defiance, rather than a societal norm, Â鶹ƵµÀ was founded with the revolutionary idea that academia belongs to everyone.
Our Spirit
The college has grown and adapted over the years, but that core ethos of inclusivity has remained unchanged. Today, Â鶹ƵµÀ continues to embody that same, revolutionary spirit of openness and warmth – which is probably why we’re known as one of the friendliest colleges in Cambridge!
Our Students
We are incredibly proud of our student body. They are exceptional students from a range of backgrounds, each of whom has earned their place at one of the greatest educational institutions in the world. We believe that each student brings a unique perspective, enriching our community with their distinct voices and experiences.
Our Curriculum
Our academic programs are designed to be as revolutionary as our history. With a focus on critical thinking, innovation, and real-world applications, Murray Edwards is unusual amongst the Cambridge colleges for its active involvement in preparing students for employment post-degree. We have a number of programmes aimed at securing internships, job opportunities, and creating noteworthy CVs.
Our Community
You’ll find a spirit of collaboration, rather than competition, at Murray Edwards, and this supportive environment gives our students the confidence to think boldly and pursue their intuition without fear of judgment. In fact, our college community is structured to resist traditional academic hierarchies for precisely this reason. You can often find students, Fellows, and non-academic staff eating lunch together in the Dome, sharing ideas and discussing research.
Our Identity
Murray Edwards holds a unique place within the context of Cambridge University. We cherish the history that we have, but our existence is proof that long-standing traditions can, and sometimes should, be changed. We understand ourselves as a product of history and modernity, and this gives us the freedom to pursue transformation, innovation and forward-thinking.
We continue to adapt and evolve, embracing new challenges and opportunities with a spirit of openness and curiosity.
