We’re delighted to announce that on 24th-25th of October 2024, Murray Edwards will mark its 70th Anniversary Year by hosting our first-ever Giving Day. We want to commemorate this special year by celebrating our community of inspiring women and raising vital funds to support current and future generations of Murray Edwards students.

Over the course of 36 hours, we invite alumnae, students, Fellows, staff, friends of the College, and supporters of women’s education to take part, so that we can continue to support brilliant women for the next 70 years and beyond.

Within College, our students will be getting stuck into various challenges to rally support and help us raise money. On Thursday, students can participate in an ‘Ergathon', taking turns to row as far as they can in seven minutes to unlock £25 of funding. On Friday, we will be running a Shakespeare Sonnet Marathon, with students attempting to read through all 154 sonnets, each raising £10. On both days we will also have a Gratitude Tree where the whole College community can gather to share special memories and reflections about the college.

We warmly invite our wider community to get involved, by engaging with us on social media using #MECGivingDay, taking part in our online challenges and by keeping updated with our events and activities. We would also be incredibly grateful if you would consider making a gift this Giving Day.

To mark seven decades of educating brilliant women, we are fundraising for seven key priorities:

  • The will help students in need with hardship grants and bursaries.
  • The will enable us to respond to the climate crisis by reducing carbon emissions and increasing biodiversity.
  • The breaks down barriers so that underrepresented women can take up their places at Cambridge University.
  • The will help us to establish a new, permanent law fellowship.
  • The supports research placements, college teaching, and academic resources in subjects where women are still the minority.
  • The will allow us to invest in much-needed new equipment so that anyone can try rowing for the College.
  • The will allow us to respond to the most pressing needs in our community.

Support in these seven key areas will enhance the experience of current students and ensure the continued success of Â鶹ƵµÀ well into the future. From providing essential financial support to students in hardship, to promoting sustainability efforts across our site, each fund plays a vital role in shaping our community.
