Biography

Katy Hessel is an art historian, broadcaster and internationally-bestselling author of The Story of Art Without Men, awarded Waterstones Book of the Year 2022. She writes a fortnightly column for The Guardian; is the founder of the Instagram, , which has grown to 400,000+ followers; and hosts The Great Women Artists Podcast, where she has interviewed Tracey Emin and Marina Abramović.

She has lectured at Tate and National Gallery; presented films and radio programmes for the BBC. In 2024, Katy wrote and presented Death of an Artist, an audio series about Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock. She has curated exhibitions at Victoria Miro Gallery, and runs an annual residency programme. She lives in London and sits on the Board of Trustees at Charleston, the former home of the Bloomsbury Group.
